Because in order for accents to serve you as an actor, you need to start thinking about them like one. Thinking like a phonetician isn’t likely to serve you here - in your head much?! This is character work! It’s not about getting it ‘right,’ it’s about finding that which is true.
Together we’ll move you from obsessing over the accent to getting curious about the voice of the character.
Because learning a new accent is essentially identifying and closing a gap. To do this you need to break down, analyse and embrace the ways in which the new accent is different from your own. But how can you do that if you don’t have a grasp of the different elements that make up an accent in the first place?
I’ll walk you through each of the four essential elements of accent analysis: pronunciation, posture, prosody & people so you’re in a good place to start analysing for yourself.
Because, if learning an accent is about identifying and closing the gap between the target accent and your own, how can you possibly do so without understanding your own accent to begin with?
