THE ONE THING I WISH ALL ACTORS KNEW ABOUT ACTING IN ACCENTS.

Viewing your character’s accent as simply ‘an accent’ is sabotaging your ability to act in it.

When you move away from viewing the accent of your character as ‘an accent’, and by that I mean as something technical, rigid and uncompromising, something that can be neatly categorised, and start viewing it as what it actually is….

… your character’s unique voice, their communication style, a reflection of who they are and where they’ve been, as part of their given circumstances, it changes everything. 

Committing to reframing how you view accents can completely transform your experience of acting in them into something free and instinctive. 

Actors who spent the last three months of 2025 working through EMPOWER with me, have gone from feeling terrified about accents to feeling free enough to dive in with curiosity & play.

You’re never going to truly connect with an accent if you’re viewing it as something purely technical.

You’ll never feel at home in it by simply breaking down, analysing and mastering its features.

Accents need to be felt.

Whether or not you’re free to feel, connect & express yourself through them depends entirely on three things: 

~ what you’re telling yourself about them, 

~ how you’re approaching them

~ having enough familiarity with the tools & processes needed to embody them that you’re actually able to trust & let go!
